After hearing yesterday’s promises and actions to cut CO2 emissions coming from many countries at UN Climate Summit 2014, explanations on what is being done so far and what will be done by 2020, I couldn’t help but think that maybe those promises would’ve had a slightly different impact if postcards from current events within those countries were shown in the background while ministers, prime-ministers and chief’s of states optimistically explained how they are doing everything within their power to fight climate change. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan speech about how he plans to expand forests in his country would not be so inspiring if a postcard from the latest very violent protests to Save Taksim Gezi Park was shown in the background.
Macedonia on the other hand keeps promising to cut CO2 emissions by 2020, using more renewable energy, and a bunch of other things, but if these postcards from the country were shown instead of the minister for foreign affairs speech, people would get a more honest picture of what is “being done”.
It’s high time that we are all honest with each other, painfully honest. There is no more time left to waste on politics and promises- we all need to start telling the truth and ask for help from each other. It’s the end of the road…
